THE BRAND
The eponymous brand is a reference to Ichiro Akuto – grandson of the founder of the legendary Hanyu Distillery (which closed production in 2000). Ichiro went on to found the nearby Chichibu Distillery and managed to save several Hanyu casks. Japanese distiller Ichiro Akuto’s whiskies are among the most highly regarded in the world. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who founded the company in the 1940s, the “Ichiro’s Malt” series typically involves blends of old stocks of Hanyu and Chichibu.
