According to the tale, the devil once visited a church near the distillery. After the congregation chased him away, he fled to Bowmore Distillery. There, warehousemen filled casks of whisky for a steamer. When the congregation informed the Distillery Manager about the devil’s presence, he ordered a thorough search. Despite their efforts, the devil escaped in a cask of Bowmore whisky headed for the Scottish mainland.

Bowmore Devil’s Cask III starts with barley expertly cultivated in Scotland’s rolling hills. After harvesting, the distillery malts and peats the barley, hand-turning it in a unique process. Bowmore uses only half as much peat and dries the barley for just 15 hours, resulting in a robust yet mild smoky flavor. The malted barley is then mashed and fermented with pure water from the Laggan River, giving the whisky its distinctive body. After twice distilling in copper-pot stills, the whisky matures in seaside, underground vaults. It ages exclusively in first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, which add a rich mahogany color and complex aromas. The palate features notes of sea salt, chocolate, light smoke, and dark fruits, culminating in a full-bodied finish with hints of coffee and cherries.
